Everton Youth Report 9/13/16
Loan Players
Brendan Galloway, West Brom – Galloway started and played a full 90 minutes at left-back for West Brom in a 0-1 loss to Bournemouth. West Brom and Galloway were unlucky to concede after putting in a good account of themselves for the majority of the game although Galloway was partially accountable for Callum Wilson’s 79th minute winner. He gave his man too much space to fire in a low cross to Wilson which he converted wonderfully for the only goal of the game. Galloway will look to rebound after this performance next week against West Ham.
Luke Garbutt, Wigan Athletic – Garbutt started at LWB in a 1-2 loss to Sheffield Wednesday where he was subbed off in the 59th minute after a frustrating game where he recorded a yellow card on a carless challenge. Garbutt has now played himself out of a starting job as he was assigned to the bench in Wigan’s most recent match against Norwich.
Russel Griffiths, Cheltenham Town – Griffiths did well to only concede one sloppy goal in a 0-1 loss to Plymouth and gave a decent account of himself in a 2-2 draw vs Newport. Given that one of the goals Newport scored was a pen, Griffiths had a decent day; he was able to rack up six saves.
Conor Grant, Ipswich Town – Conor Grant broke in to the starting line-up in the midfield and went relatively unnoticed until he was hauled off at halftime in a 1-0 win vs Derby County. Grant has struggled so far to find consistent minutes in a decent Championship team in Ipswich but should get plenty of opportunities as the season progresses.
Shani Tarashaj, Frankfurt – Tarashaj did not make the team-sheet for Frankfurt in a 0-1 loss to Darmstadt 98. Tarashaj is a very talented youngster as we all saw at the Euros and he should look to break into the first team rather soon.
Aiden McGeady, Preston North End – Aiden McGeady is back ripping up the championship. McGeady scored a wonderful 25-yard strike to draw the game against Barnsely level in the 64th minute although Preston would go on to lose. He started again at left-midfield in a 3-0 win vs Cardiff where he was instrumental in creating all three goals although he didn’t score himself. A great debut and second game for McGeady at Preston. Under-23s
The Everton u23s suffered their first defeat of the season to Sunderland’s u23s in a tough fought 0-1 loss. New signing Calvert-Lewin started up top, but couldn’t seem to get anything going. Everton starlet Mason Holgate actually started in right-midfield as opposed to his normal spot in defense and did decent, but not good enough to overcome a strong Sunderland u23 side. Everton u23s are now second in the table behind Sunderland 23s in the Premier League 2.
