FC Dallas missed the chance to claim top spot in the Western Conference table in their rain-delayed 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo at the Toyota Stadium.

A pre-match downpour in Texas put the clash in doubt and within four minutes referee Kevin Stott ordered the players off the field with the game goalless.

When play eventually resumed almost two hours later, Ryan Hollingshead opened the scoring for Dallas on 23 minutes by converting Fabian Castillo's cross.

A powerful drive from Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark, though, levelled the scores six minutes after half-time to prevent Dallas from leapfrogging leaders Colorado Rapids in the table.

An own goal from Frederic Brillant prevented New York City from moving up to second in the Eastern Conference after they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Real Salt Lake.

Jack Harrison scored his first MLS goal shortly after half-time before Yura Movsisyan and Juan Manuel Martinez turned the game in Salt Lake's favour.

Brillant then deflected Javier Morales' cross into his own net on 74 minutes while David Villa grabbed a consolation for New York from the penalty spot three minutes from time.

LA Galaxy, meanwhile, played out a 0-0 draw with Sporting Kansas City at StubHub Center in a game of few chances.
