Coen Moulijn, Feyenoord's mercurial former left winger and a key part of the team that won the European Cup in 1970, died early Tuesday following a stroke, the club said. He was 73.

The gifted dribbler appeared 487 times for the Rotterdam club in a career spanning 17 seasons. Moulijn also played 38 internationals for the Netherlands and turned down several offers from overseas clubs to stay at his beloved Feyenoord.

''He made this club great,'' Feyenoord coach Mario Been said. ''We will always be grateful to him for that.''

Moulijn's trademark move was feigning to go right then cutting the ball back and accelerating past wrong-footed defenders on the left before crossing the ball.

Feyenoord said on its website that at the height of his popularity fans said Moulijn could have half-filled the De Kuip Stadium just by playing cards on the halfway line.

Fans laid flowers and club scarves Tuesday at the foot of a life-size statue of Moulijn that stands outside De Kuip.
