Frank Lampard confirms he's leaving NYCFC, but future unclear

Frank Lampard has called his time in MLS to an end, announcing via Instagram that he is leaving New York City FC.

The 38-year-old midfielder's contract expires at the end of the year, and wrote on Instagram that his time at the club had "come to an end." He went onto further state that he will make an announcement on "the next stage" of his career "very soon."

In two years, Lampard scored 15 goals in 31 appearances for New York, despite a rough start to life in MLS as he initially struggled with injury and fitness.

Lampard left Chelsea to sign with New York City in July 2014, before joining up with parent club Manchester City on loan in August, a move that didn't sit well with a number of NYCFC fans.

The former England midfielder was called by many the "worst signing in MLS history" before eventually finding his footing in the league and redeeming himself in the eyes of NYCFC supporters. He came back so strong, he even got his own "Frank Lampard Day" in New York.

Now, with Lampard hanging the boots up, what's next? He hinted in October that he might be interested in a coaching role, but has yet to make any concrete announcement about his future.
