CARSON, Calif. (AP) The LA Galaxy have hired former San Jose head coach Dominic Kinnear as an assistant to Sigi Schmid.

The struggling Galaxy announced the move Tuesday.

Kinnear is one of four head coaches in league history to win multiple MLS Cup titles, leading the Houston Dynamo to championships in 2006 and 2007.

He was fired in June by the Earthquakes, who were 27-31-27 during his 2 1/2-year tenure.

The Bay Area product also coached the first MLS edition of the Earthquakes from 2003-04. He moved with that franchise to Houston for nine additional seasons in charge.

The Galaxy (6-14-5) are winless in their first five games under Schmid, the winningest coach in MLS history. They're winless in 10 games, and they haven't scored a goal since Aug. 6.
