Gareth Bale's Former Boss Believes He Can Win the Balon d'Or
Gareth Bale has had one heck of a year. After winning the Champions League with Real Madrid for the second time in the last three years, the Welsh Wizard led his native country to a birth in the Euro semi-finals, a historic feat for a nation new to the big stage.
Bale will have high expectations to live up to this season after what has already been a huge 2016. To go along with his other accomplishments, Bale was nominated for the Balon d’Or, one of three players to be nominated. One of Bale’s former managers, Harry Redknapp, took note of the Welshmen’s great 2016 thus far. .
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Redknapp said, “(Gareth) Bale has everything. He’s great in the air, is strong, can run long distances and has a venomous shot”. This season already, Bale has demonstrated the world-class talent he possesses by scoring in two out of the three La Liga games.
With Real Madrid off to a strong start in the La Liga campaign, the attention now turns to the Champions League with a midweek clash against Sporting on the horizon. Having a strong UCL campaign is essential for any player with an ambition to win the world’s most prestigious individual award, and Redknapp took note claiming, “I think he could win this year if he has a good Champions League.”
In order for Redknapp’s claims to become a reality, the Welshman will need to find his shooting boots in the UCL, especially after totaling 0 goals in last year’s championship run.
Both Redknapp and Real Madrid knew Bale would become one of the best, and that is why he was transferred for what was then a world-record fee. All that’s left for Bale is to take the next step and join Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only winners of the Golden Ball since 2008.
