Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum can become a key Liverpool player under Jurgen Klopp

At first I wasn’t so sure, but now I think Georginio Wijnaldum can become a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Upon arriving, many wondered why the heck he was actually signed. “We have Adam Lallana” some said, while others insisted he wouldn’t make it into the first team.

I certainly wasn’t sure where Wijnaldum would fit, but I thought he was a quality signing to add depth. Due to injuries in our midfield, Wijnaldum has actually been starting games in the centre of midfield alongside the similar-styled Lallana.

In all fairness, he’s actually been pretty good. He had a quiet start, but against Leicester City he looked much more involved and lively. The fact he’s alongside another attacking player can leave us vulnerable, but the work rate shown by both Wijnaldum and Lallana seems to make up for their pushing.

    Key characteristics

I now fully believe Wijnaldum can become a key player for Liverpool. His shots come close most of the time, and as soon as he figures it out he’ll be firing into the net often. He also moves well, creating options for those around him.

In terms of defence, he hasn’t been too shabby either. He works hard, tracks back and does his job. I think creatively he has more to offer, but that will come in time. At the moment, it’s hard to focus on Wijnaldum given the impressive performances from other attackers.

He look to have all the qualities to succeed under Klopp. Positive shooting, skillful dribbling and clever movement all support the idea that he can be developed into a machine. Once those shots start finding the net, I have no doubts he’ll be brilliant.

Gini is doing well already considering he prefers being further forward. I actually bet he’d contribute more goals/assists if playing in a front three.
