Harry Kane has ligament damage to his ankle, but injury isn't as bad as first feared
Tottenham Hotspur will be without Harry Kane for the near future. The club's star striker has been diagnosed with ligament damage to his right ankle, suffered when he was tackled in Spurs' FA Cup win over Millwall on Sunday, which will keep him sidelined for the next little while.
Spurs did not give an exact timeline for Kane's recovery, but they did say "it is not considered to be as severe" as the ankle injury he suffered in the fall. When he was hurt the first time, he missed seven weeks of action so, assuming his recovery goes faster than the more severe previous injury, Kane will not miss the remainder of the season.
That Kane will play again this season is welcome news for the club. Original reports speculated that he might be out for months and not play again until next season. Considering he had his ankle rolled over by a tackle and couldn't put much weight on it afterward, that was a fair fear, but things don't appear to be as serious as first feared.
Still, Tottenham will have to deal without their star striker for at least the near future, which will be tough. Kane had been on fire, scoring nine goals in the four games before his injury and jumping to the top of the Premier League goal scoring chart. Son Heung-min, who scored a hat trick against Millwall, could be called on to take Kane's place, while Vincent Janssen is another option and has to have a fair bit of confidence after scoring his first goal from open play on Sunday.
With Spurs sitting second in the Premier League and into the FA Cup semifinals, this is the most important part of their season, but now they'll have to go into it without Kane. At least they won't have to finish the season without him, though.
