Hope Solo gets emotional after having USWNT contract terminated (Video)
It’s been an emotional month for Hope Solo from the Rio Olympics to her contract being terminated. After receiving news about being let go by US Soccer, she goes crazy on camera.
Hope Solo has helped the USWNT win many big games and come away with World Cup titles and Olympic gold medals. However, her off the field antics have taken away from what she’s done on the field.
Her comments after losing to Sweden in the Olympics came off immature and caused US Soccer to drop the hammer on the former USWNT goalie. She was initially suspended for six months, but then her contract was terminated by the federation.
After being informed her contract was terminated, Solo was visibly upset and went into a profanity-laced tirade on camera. Full Screen was shooting footage for their feature called Keeping Score. This scene will air on September 2nd. Below is a teaser of the episode with Solo’s reaction as he is consoled by her husband.
Losing your job sucks. Many Americans know that first thing as they are laid off in mass quantities due to budget cuts or a company going out of business. However, Solo’s situation is somewhat different. Her actions and “coward” comments about Sweden caused her to lose her job. This wasn’t the first time she was in trouble with USSF as they have been more lenient with past mistakes.
Likewise, her play has dropped in quality as seen at the Olympics and it may be time to move on from Solo. US Soccer finally had enough of her immaturity and lack of leadership by going in a new direction. It’s unknown if she will ever see the field again in a USWNT uniform.
Finally, one mistake can cause someone their career and that appears to be the case with Solo. In fact, she had many chances to change, but appeared to never realize the seriousness of her past transgressions.
