Hope Solo was handed the keys to the USWNT's Instagram account on Tuesday ahead of the national team's match against England in the SheBelieves Cup. It was seemingly innocent, innocuous and should have gone by with nothing more than some amusement. Instead, she waded into a bit of hot water.
The American goalkeeper posted a picture of herself on a boat and a mechanic fixing it with the caption:
"Advice: always have a good attorney & a good mechanic on speed dial! Pete with Crackerboy outboards to the rescue!!! And we're off! #HopeTakeover"
The post was quickly deleted, but not before USA Today took a screengrab of it.
Solo's last two years have been plagued by legal and off-field trouble. She faced two counts of domestic violence in the fourth degree after an incident with her half-sister and nephew. The case was later dismissed, but an appeals court overturned that decision and the case is once again pending.
Solo was also suspended by the national team for 30 days last January after her husband Jerramy Stevens was arrested for driving under the influence. Solo was in the passenger's seat at the time of the arrest and the two were in a national team van.
Considering Solo's past, references to attorneys and needing to have a good one might not be the best idea.
