Hummels might be interested in Man City move, says his father

Manchester City would be well positioned in any race to sign Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender Mats Hummels for next season, his father and agent has indicated.

Hermann Hummels, who represents his son, had previously mooted Bayern Munich as a possible destination.

Now it has emerged that City, who have appointed Bayern boss Pep Guardiola to be their next manager, may be a temptation to Hummels if they come in with an offer.

Guardiola takes over at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, and Hermann Hummels told the SID news agency: "Manchester City could also be a very interesting option. They've not done so well this year, but they are going to win the league next year.

"They are getting the best coach in the world."

Center-back Hummels has one year left on his Dortmund contract.

Guardiola sidestepped speculation about Hummels' future on Friday, by saying that is "not a question for me" at a press conference in Munich.

Bayern's media officer Markus Horwick immediately added that Hummels "has a contract until 2017 with Dortmund and that must be respected, so there is nothing more to say on the matter".

A decision to leave Dortmund has not yet been taken by Hummels, who is likely to be sold if he does not commit to an extension.

"He loves being at Dortmund," said his father. "However, it's fair to have the idea of doing something different.

"He's thinking long and hard about it and it's so difficult because it's a big decision.

"Moving abroad is part of those considerations, but there's no tendency either way."
