Is Stefan Frei's colossal blunder the howler of the MLS season?

Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei will be immortalized on blooper reels for years to come after making one of the biggest howlers you’ll ever see a goalkeeper make.

With Seattle holding a 2-0 lead against Real Salt Lake on Sunday night, Frei inexplicably gifted the visitors a goal by almost quite literally handing the ball to RSL's Yura Movsisyan near the edge of the Sounders box. Movsisyan then found Joao Plata to slot it home.

The worst part is Frei knew Movsisyan was right there. Frei picked the ball up a yard in front of him, had a clear view of where Movsisyan was the entire time, and still decided to roll the ball right across his feet as if he had actually just been a figment of Frei’s imagination.

There’s just no other way to put it. This was a classic brain fart from Frei, who otherwise had a solid game and was just that one mistake away from his sixth clean sheet of the season.

It may not have ended up costing the playoff-chasing Sounders a point on Sunday, but that's a gaffe Frei will likely never be able to forget.
