Jamie Vardy scores again as Leicester beat Watford
LEICESTER, England -- Jamie Vardy extended his scoring streak to nine straight Premier League games to help Leicester beat Watford 2-1 Saturday and maintain its grip on third place.
Vardy slotted in a penalty in the 65th minute to make it 2-0 and move within one game of Ruud van Nistelrooy's record streak of scoring in 10 straight Premier League games.
N'Golo Kante had put Leicester ahead in the 53rd minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who let a low shot slip between his hands.
Troy Deeney pulled back a goal from the spot in the 76th for Watford.
Leicester is now level on 25 points with leader Manchester City and second-place Arsenal, who both play Sunday. Newcomer Watford is in midtable with 16 points.
WEST HAM 1, EVERTON 1
LONDON -- Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku scored yet again against West Ham to rescue a 1-1 draw for Everton at Upton Park on Saturday in the Premier League.
Lukaku made it seven goals in his last seven appearances against the Hammers with a well-taken equalizer shortly before halftime.
It cancelled out Manuel Lanzini's classy opener and meant more frustration for West Ham against the Toffees.
SOUTHAMPTON 1, SUNDERLAND 0
SUNDERLAND, England -- Dusan Tadic converted a penalty in the 69th minute to give Southampton a 1-0 win over struggling Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday and extend the team's unbeaten run to eight games.
Tadic slotted in his spot kick after Yann M'Vila had tripped Ryan Bertrand at the Stadium of Light to break the deadlock. Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon had kept the visitors at bay until then with a string of saves, while the hosts struggled to create chances throughout.
Sunderland has now lost three of its four games under new manager Sam Allardyce and remains mired in the relegation zone with just six points from 12 games.
Southampton remained within four points of the Champions League places.
NORWICH 1, SWANSEA 0
NORWICH, England -- Norwich beat Swansea 1-0 Saturday to end its six-game winless run as Jonny Howson headed in midway through the second half to secure the three points that kept the Canaries clear of the Premier League's bottom three.
Robbie Brady won a corner when his edge-of-the-area shot was saved by Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, and from the resulting corner he crossed to substitute Dieumerci Mbokani, who left the goalkeeper out of position by heading into Howson's path. The midfielder nodded in with ease from the closest of range in the 70th minute.
Norwich retained the lead at Carrow Road with its deep-lying defense and midfield limiting Swansea's chances.
Swansea, with just one win since August, has one more point than Norwich - 13 to 12 - after 12 games.
