Jose Mourinho can't contain his excitement about Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba is finally joining Manchester United, with just a medical standing between him and pulling on that famous red shirt. Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho found out the deal was done just before Sunday's Community Shield contest and, as you could have guessed, he was excited.
"It's an amazing situation that such a great player is with us," Mourinho said to BT Sport after the Community Shield. "Finally we have him."
Pogba has been linked to Manchester United all summer, with the fee reportedly set to be a world record â¬110 million, but the saga dragged on and there started to be some worry that maybe it would fall apart. But that won't be the case.
Mourinho is never easy on his players so he's going to make Pogba work for his spot in the team, no matter how talented he is and how much money the Red Devils paid for him.
"He comes to a winning side, who have won the Cup Final and the Community Shield. He has to work hard to come to the team."
That's nice and all, but let's be real: Manchester United don't exactly have a fearsome central midfield. They didn't just sign one of the best in the world in the middle of the pitch, they desperately needed help there. They've been played off the field too many times by superior midfields and Pogba is being brought in to change that.
Pogba almost certainly won't be ready for the start of Manchester United's season because he hasn't trained since the end of the Euros, when France were beaten in the final. He'll join up with Manchester United this week and begin to find his fitness and form for the season. That takes some time. But when he is ready to go, you can bet he'll walk right into the team and change the Red Devils midfield. After all, Mourinho was definitely right when he called the signing "amazing."
