Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon pens emotional letter ... to his goal
Gianluigi Buffon will undoubtedly go down as one of the great goalkeepers to ever strap on a pair of gloves. But it's his earnest personality that is making most of the headlines following a record-breaking performance in the Turin derby at the weekend.
The Juventus goalkeeper made history in the Old Lady's 4-1 thumping of Torino, breaking the Serie A record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal on Sunday (973), which eclipsed the previous record of 929 minutes held by Milan goalkeeper Sebastiano Rossi in 1994. And to mark the occasion, the 38-year-old captain took to social media, penning a heartfelt letter to none other than the goal he'd set out to defend throughout the streak.

Okay, we must admit, thanking the goal in a public display of gratitude is a little strange, but did you really expect anything else from 'San Gigi'?
Buffon also celebrated the achievement by drafting a separate and equally poetic note, singling out each of his Juventus teammates who helped him along the way.
What a guy.
