Juventus sets out to finish off Monaco in Champions League semifinals

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Juventus is 90 minutes away from securing a place in the UEFA Champions League final, carrying a 2-0 edge into its home leg of the semifinals vs. Monaco (2:45 p.m., FS1).

Gonzalo Higuain's two goals in Monaco in the first leg have Juventus on course for a place in the June 3 final in Cardiff, and the uphill climb is made even tougher for Monaco considering that Juventus hasn't conceded a goal in 621 minutes in the Champions League, a stretch of six games. Monaco needs two goals and a clean sheet to force extra time, while beating Juventus by two (or more) should both teams score would send the Ligue 1 leader through.

An improbable comeback by Kylian Mbappe & Co. would put Monaco in the final for the first time since 2004, while Juventus is eyeing a return after falling to Barcelona at the final hurdle in 2015. Waiting in the final will be either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, with the former taking a commanding 3-0 lead into the second leg after Cristiano Ronaldo's hat trick at home last week.
