Karim Benzema scores 50th career Champions League goal, moves into 5th on all-time list

Karim Benzema became just the sixth player to score 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League, moving into a tie with Thierry Henry on the competition's all-time scoring list. The Real Madrid man hit the milestone when he found the back of the net twice in the Merenegues' 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

Benzema is often overshadowed and even forgotten. Such is the nature of playing with Cristiano Ronaldo and, to a lesser degree, Gareth Bale. When you think of Real Madrid attackers, he's the third name that comes up, but all he does is score on the biggest of stages.

The Frenchman did it while with Olympique Lyon, scoring eight goals in his last two Champions League campaigns with his hometown club. And at Real Madrid, he's done nothing but score every year since joining the club in 2009. He has four already in this Champions League and only figures to add to his tally as the tournament goes on.

Benzema only needs one more goal to take fifth place all to himself. After that, he will only have Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Raul and Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of him. Most incredibly, one Benzema gets ahead of Henry, four of the Champions League's all-time leading scorers will be Real Madrid players.
