Karim Benzema scores acrobatic scissor kick goal in El Clasico

Barcelona were up 1-0 on Real Madrid in the second half of Saturday's El Clasico and seemingly on their way to another win over their rivals, which effectively would eliminate Real from the La Liga race once and for all.

Then Karim Benzema happened.

In the 62nd minute, Toni Kroos played a ball into the box where the Real striker was lurking, but a deflection off Jordi Alba popped the ball in the air. Benzema didn't care. He just waited for the ball to get close enough to execute an acrobatic overhead kick, and finished it with aplomb to tie the game. It was beautiful.

It's been quite a day for French superstars. Earlier on Saturday, Benzema's ex-national teammate Franck Ribery scored an even more impressive scissor kick goal for Bayern Munich in what was an emphatic reminder of his own greatness. And then West Ham's Dimitri Payet followed suit with his second free kick golazo this week. Vive la France, indeed.

Despite Benzema's goal, Barcelona will probably cruise to their second straight La Liga crown anyway, but at least Real had the prettiest goal of the day. That counts for something, right? Right??
