Keylor Navas Takes Responsibility for Aubameyang's Goal
An error gifted Borussia Dortmund an equalizer in the 43rd minute, which brought up the question: Was it Keylor Navas’s fault, or Varane’s fault? It appears that the Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has taken responsibility for the goal
In the 43rd minute of the match, Raphael Guerreiro set up for a free kick. The Portuguese defender set a shot into the center of the goal. The shot didn’t come in with incredible force, and wasn’t particularly well placed, but Keylor Navas seemed to think it warranted a punch instead of a catch.
Keylor Navas deflected the ball with both fists, and it bounced into Raphael Varane’s direction, with the Frenchman being caught off guard. Both Navas and Varane failed to react quickly, which gave Aubameyang the chance to score.

Even if Aubameyang hadn’t been there to finish, the ball would’ve gone in as an own goal. Both Varane and Navas failed to at quickly, and were powerless after the initial stop from Navas.
After the match, the Costa Rican keeper was asked about the goal, and admitted it was his fault.
“I recognize that I made a mistake with the first goal. The ball caught me by surprise and I obviously didn’t see it properly.”
“It’s been a long few months since I’ve played, but thankfully the team played well, put in a good effort and created many chances.”
This was the first start of the season for Navas, who was out due to a surgical procedure on his heel in the summer. Even with the error that granted Dortmund the equalizer, Keylor Navas is Real Madrid’s best keeper, and it was unlucky that Dortmund were his first opponents this season.
Keylor Navas is very likely to start in this weekend’s league match vs Eibar. It’ll be interesting to see how the Keeper settles in after his long absence.
