La Liga: Deportivo peg back Malaga to claim crucial point; Almeria move out of relegation
Malaga was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Deportivo La Coruna Sunday as both failed to end winless streaks in the Spanish league.
Forward Nordin Amrabat scored from outside the area to give Malaga the lead two minutes after halftime.
But Oriol Riera headed in Lucas Perez's free kick in the 60th, and Perez almost scored when he struck another free kick off the post and across the goal-mouth in the 83rd.
Deportivo goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto made a one-handed save to deny substitute Javi Guerra in stoppage time.
Winless in six rounds, Malaga remained in seventh place, one point ahead of Athletic Bilbao, as it vies for a Europa League spot.
Deportivo inched one point above the relegation zone after enduring an 11th round without a victory.
Almeria 2, Eibar 0
Almeria moved out of the relegation zone with a much-needed 2-0 Primera Division victory over Eibar at the Mediterraneo on Sunday afternoon.
Thievy Bifouma and Verza were on target in each half as Sergi Barjuan's strugglers claimed just their second win from their last 11 matches to move level on points with their opponents, who sit a spot above them in 16th.
Eibar, who have won just one of their last 15 games, face a similar task of fighting off relegation with five matches of the season remaining.
Sevilla 2, Rayo Vallecano 0
First-half goals from Vicente Iborra and Daniel Carrico lifted Sevilla up to fourth place in Spain's Primera Division with a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.
Iborra fired an 18th minute opener from an assist by Diogo Figueiras and Carrico doubled the home side's advantage with a header from a Denis Suarez cross two minutes before the break.
The win lifts Sevilla above Valencia, who face relegation-threatened Granada on Monday night.
Sevilla's draw with Granada last week dented their European aspirations and they were keen to bounce back with a win against their mid-table opponents.
