Las Palmas beats Malaga for its first win in Spanish league
MADRID (AP) Las Palmas beat Malaga 3-1 in a match between winless teams to leave the bottom of the Spanish league standings on Monday.
Jonathan Viera opened the scoring for Las Palmas just before halftime and Diego Gonzalez equalized for the hosts early in the second half. Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri put Las Palmas ahead again with a powerful shot from inside the area in the 69th.
Loic Remy closed the scoring in the final minutes.
''We got off to an inconsistent start in the league but today we came focused on playing a great match,'' Viera said. ''We had to win no matter what.''
Malaga fans at La Rosaleda Stadium loudly jeered the team after the final whistle.
''We have to keep fighting,'' Gonzalez said. ''We are the ones who can turn things around.''
Alaves is the only other team without a win after three rounds.
