Latest news on potential Christian Pulisic transfer to Liverpool

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

On deadline day, Jurgen Klopp will continue to pursue a transfer to get Christian Pulisic to Liverpool. Here’s the latest.

Liverpool will not give up on their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic as they’re making a late run at securing his transfer.

The club had an £11million bid rejected by Dortmund a few days ago and were set to be persistent, continuing to chase him until the transfer window closes.

There’s bad news for the Reds and it’s come straight from the source. Well, the source’s father, Mark Pulisic.

“Christian has no interest in leaving the club,” Mark Pulisic said, via Bild. “He had a good half year last season, and wants to continue to break through.”

That’s that then, I guess. American Reds it’s time to gently weep.

When the initial news of the first bid broke, it was always an unlikely move. It was then reported that Liverpool wouldn’t just give up after the one bid was rejected, though. They’d continue this window and windows beyond. This’ll be one to watch.

For both club and player, the move may be peculiar. Who would he be playing over at Liverpool right now? The likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho or Adam Lallana? What would happen to Sheyi Ojo then, when would he play? And when Ryan Kent returns from loan in a year?

The 17 year old Pulisic may be a better talent than both Ojo and Kent, but he’s surely not ready to usurp any of the established first four first teamers yet. Especially this season without European football and much of a need to rotate the team.

Pulisic is a real talent, though. It’d be exciting for the club to sign a hot young player and it’d pander to their American owners to pluck the best American prospect probably since Landon Donovan.
