League Cup draw drops derbies, mouthwatering matchups for fourth round
Well, well, well ... we have quite a fourth round of the League Cup on our hands! Bucking the somewhat fishy tradition of withholding bigger-ticket matchups for quarter and semifinals, Wednesday's draw resulted in some tasty ties in England.
The biggest highlight from the exciting draw is a Manchester derby, where the Citizens, who are cup-holders, will visit their crosstown rivals at Old Trafford. The League Cup tie will give United an early chance to avenge the 1-2 defeat that Jose Mourinho's Red Devils suffered at the hands of Pep Guardiola and City in the derby on Sept. 10.
Another derby is also slated, as Chelsea will visit London rivals West Ham. That clash will mark Chelsea's first visit to West Ham's new, state-of-the-art London Stadium. Liverpool and Tottenham will lock horns in another Premier League-centric clash at Anfield, while Sunderland will visit Southampton.
As the fourth-round ties are all single elimination, clubs will have just one shot to try and progress to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Furthermore, with so many of the Premier League teams drawn against one another, the door opens for some of the "minnows" to push their way further into the competition.
Match times were not released with the draw, but are scheduled to take place the week of Oct. 24-30. Here are the full draw results:
