Leicester City have agreed a deal to buy defender Daniel Amartey from FC Copenhagen.

The Danish club say they have accepted a bid for the 21-year-old Ghana international and the player must now finalise personal terms and undergo a medical.

Copenhagen said in a statement to Denmark's stock exchange that the deal was worth around 34 million Danish krone which equates to £3.47m.

The club's chief executive Anders Horsholt said: "We cannot turn down a transfer of this size because generally speaking, it is the best outcome for FC Copenhagen.

"We have been very happy to have Daniel here but it is part of our strategy as a club and a company to develop players to a level where they get so attractive that clubs from the biggest leagues will buy them for large sums of money."

Born in Ghana, Amartey was scouted by current Estonia national team coach Magnus Pehrsson, who signed him for Swedish club Djurgarden in 2013.

After a successful spell with Djurgarden, Amartey joined FC Copenhagen in July 2014.
