Leicester City: International break - Who's playing and where?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Leicester City’s players travel all around the world during the international break, here you’ll find a round up on where they’re travelling to.

Sadly for fans of Leicester City and domestic football in general, the first international break of the season has commenced.

This means no midweek football, no shock Premier League results, risk of injury to important players and most importantly, we can’t watch our favourite foxes battle it out to retain the Premier League.

We can however see how our favourite players fair playing for their respective international sides as a consolation.

Due to Leicester City’s incredible success over the past year, we’re seeing more international appearances from foxes players than ever before, so lets get started.

Shinji Okazaki – Japan 1 – 2 UAE

Our first kick off of the week saw Leicester City forward Shinji Okazaki face UAE to kick off their World Cup Qualifying campaign.

You’d expect Japan to easily win the game however they fell short after Shinji hit the crossbar after coming close with a headed effort, the score remained 2 – 1 at the final whistle.

Both Japan and Okazaki will be very disappointed with the result and as such, I’m sure Shinji will work even harder than he usually does in order to put this result behind him and move forward.

Japan travel to Thailand next on the 6th of September and will be looking for a huge improvement on this result.

    Wes Morgan – Panama 2 – 0 Jamaica

Leicester City captain and Jamaican international Wes Morgan looked to get their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flying start.

    More from Foxes of Leicester

Morgan, born less than 30 miles from Leicester in Nottingham, opted to play for his ancestral roots of Jamaica in 2016 and has played 28 games since.

Jamaican National Team coach Winfried Schäfer was expecting a big result on away turf against Panama however they fell short, losing 2 – 0 after only have 2 shots on target.

Jamaica will be very disappointed with their result after coming off of the back of a great Copa America performance in the summer, their next game is at home against Haiti on the 7th of September where they’ll expect a much better performance.

Ahmed Musa – Nigeria vs Tanzania (03.09.2016)

Nigeria faces off against Tanzania this afternoon at 4pm Nigerian time.

We are unsure of whether Musa will play as reports are saying he may not face Tanzania as the Nigerian coaches believe the fixture to be a ‘dead rubber’ game.

Should Musa appear we know what to expect, blistering pace with plenty of end product, however the end product is yet to appear at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City fans will be hoping that Musa finds his shooting boots during his AFCON qualifying campaign and will come back fit and fired up for their game against Liverpool.

Riyad Mahrez – Algeria vs Lesotho (04.09.2016)

Sunday see’s PFA ‘Player of The Year’ face off against Lesotho in their African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Algeria will be very disappointed to come away from this result with anything but a win and with Mahrez in the side, fans will be expecting a big performance.

Algeria played Lesotho last September, coming away from the fixture with a 3 – 1 win, they’ll be expecting much more of the same this time round.

PARIS, FRANCE – AUGUST 31: New Leicester City signing Islam Slimani poses for pictures in Paris before re-joining his international team mates after passing a medical and joining Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon for a club record fee on August 31, 2016 in Paris, France. Islam Slimani – Algeria vs Lesotho (04.09.2016)

Perhaps the most exciting prospect this weekend for foxes fans is to see their new club record signing Islam Slimani play alongside star player Riyad Mahrez.

Bought on deadline day for a fee of €30m + €5m in ad-ons, Slimani is now Leicester City’s most expensive player ever.

As such, foxes fans will be hoping for a big performance to get them excited for what may be his debut against Liverpool at Anfield in their first fixture after the international break.

Danny Drinkwater – England vs Slovakia (04.09.2016)

Our first England international under new manager Sam Allardyce see’s Danny Drinkwater return to the squad.

After narrowly missing out on making the Euro 2016 squad under Roy Hodgson, Drinkwater will have a point to prove.

He’s coming off of the back of a title winning season with Leicester City and as he has continued his form, ‘Big Sam’ see’s him fit for his return to the England set up.

Drinkwater received the ‘Man of The Match’ reward during his debut vs Holland but this apparently wasn’t enough for Roy Hodgson and subsequently dropped him from the squad before the Euro 2016, making way for Ross Barkley to travel to France.

Jamie Vardy – England vs Slovakia (04.09.2016)

Drinkwater isn’t the only English international playing this weekend.

Fellow fox Jamie Vardy will be appearing for England after cementing his place in the side following his debut last spring.

A relatively mediocre Euro campaign saw Vardy come under a lot of criticism despite scoring England’s equalising goal against Wales after coming off of the bench.

An England side under Sam Allardyce is much more likely to suit Jamie Vardy as he’ll have more space to run in behind defenders as well as a set game plan that the whole team understands.

Andy King – Wales vs Moldova (05.09.2016)

Monday night see’s Leicester City veteran and Wales face a travelling Moldova side.

Coming off of the back of a fantastic Euro 2016, Wales will be hoping to carry their form on to the World Cup qualifiers.

Want your voice heard? Join the Foxes of Leicester team!

King, Leicester City’s high scoring midfielder of all time, is unlikely to start in midfield however he usually features off of the bench in the second half.

As there is a lack off football to watch over the next few days, we suggest foxes fans tune in to watch Andy and Wales on Monday night.
