Die-hard soccer fans often show their undying love for their clubs in strange ways, usually by saddling their poor offspring with the names of their favorite players.

Last month told you about the cheeky Arsenal fan who convinced his partner to christen their daughter 'Lanesra' because it was a "unique and romantic" name.

It was only two years later that Clare Smith was told by her husband that her child's name was actually Arsenal spelled backwards. Uh oh ...

Now, a Leicester City supporter is pulling out all the stops to ensure star striker Jamie Vardy becomes part of his expanding family.

Somehow, Ashley Marriott has managed to convince his partner that their third child, who is expected in June, should be named after the prolific Foxes striker - if he can get enough fans to sign a petition.

Mariott posted his petition on change.org to get supporters for his daughter to have 'Vardy' as a middle name, but the deal is he needs 5,000 signatures!

Marriott tweeted at Jamie Vardy's fiancee Rebekah Nicholson, looking for support:

But it doesn't look like she's a fan of the plan.

Marriott might make his 5K goal - as of this posting, he had already passed 3,000 supporters.
