Lionel Messi's free-kick goal was nearly identical to one he hit during warmups
There have been a lot of superlatives thrown around when it comes to Lionel Messi. Magician, wizard, demigod and so on. Now, we can add clairvoyant to the list. The Argentina and Barcelona star opened the scoring in Tuesday's World Cup qualifying against Colombia with a sensational free kick.
The thing is, anybody watching prematch warmups should have seen it coming. Here he is practicing a free kick from just outside the box with his otherworldly left foot:
And here he is during in-game action, from an even further distance.
Left footed, top shelf, kisses the bar and in. It even bounces up and touches the top of the net again in both attempts! That's just spooky. It's almost like he knew he'd be presented with the opportunity and figured he might as well practice the attempt.
It looks like practice does make perfect, after all. Or, being Lionel Messi makes perfect.
