Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must worry about agent's comments

Liverpool’s boss needs to make up with Mino Raiola

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp needs to be careful making enemies with powerful agents. He needs to be concerned about Mino Raiola’s recent comments about his treatment of striker Mario Balotelli.

The super agent claimed that the German manager “failed to take into account that he was talking to a human being” when dealing with his big-name client. Balotelli finally was allowed to leave Liverpool on Deadline Day via a free transfer to Nice.

Evidently that wasn’t good enough for Raiola. He had some colorful language to describe Klopp’s behavior during the entire affair. It’s safe to say that he won’t be in a rush to send any clients to Anfield any time soon.

Raiola might be completely wrong in his assessment of Klopp. After all, the German boss is generally considered to be a pretty affable man manager. Most of his former players would speak positively about their time under his management.

Whether Raiola is wrong or right really doesn’t matter though. Klopp, and Liverpool, need the super agent more than he needs the club. Liverpool fans might not like that reality, but it’s the truth in today’s football landscape.

There are quite a few clubs all across Europe who can afford to purchase top-end talent. There are far fewer world-class players available to acquire. That means Liverpool can’t afford to lose the ability to negotiate with an agent like Raiola.

You may not like him, but he’s always going to represent world-class talent. Chances are, Liverpool and Klopp are going to fancy one of his young clients sooner rather than later. They can’t afford to let their handling of Balotelli prevent them from negotiating with Raiola moving forward.

You can bet that Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool transfer committee are seething at Raiola’s recent comments. Their first instinct will be to cut off all future communication with him. If they do that, it’s going to cost them a player they need somewhere down the line. They need to make nice with the egomaniacal agent.
