Liverpool have huge advantage over Tottenham in EFL Cup

Liverpool’s lack of European football give them a huge edge

Liverpool and Tottenham are set for an intriguing clash in the next round of the EFL Cup at Anfield. Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp, his side will enter the match with a tremendous advantage over Spurs.

Klopp may have really “froze” when the draw was announced, but the German boss will warm up to the matchup once he has time to really consider it carefully. His club’s lack of European football gives them a huge advantage in the competition.

Expect Liverpool to field a very strong side in the midfield match. Aside from Premier League competition, they simply don’t have anything else to concern themselves with. That means the Cup can be a real priority for them.

Tottenham, on the other hand, will still be concerned with the Premier League and Champions League football when the match comes around. That could severely limit the starting XI that Mauricio Pochettino can put out in the fixture.

If Spurs aren’t able to field their first choice starting XI, they won’t stand much of a chance against a strong Liverpool lineup playing in front of the home faithful. It would require a herculean effort from Tottenham’s Academy products to pull off the upset.

Liverpool fans would certainly rather be playing Champions League football this season, but their lack of European football does have its advantages. Principally, it allows them to focus all of their top resources on the league, and competitions like the EFL Cup. That’s good news for Liverpool, but bad news for a Tottenham squad that will enter the match stretched thin.
