Liverpool: Mane allays injury fears, says he's ready to play against Leicester

Everybody can exhale: Sadio Mane is fine, and he’s back at Melwood ahead of Liverpool’s game against Leicester City this weekend.

That was close.

Sadio Mane was substituted in the second half whilst playing for Senegal during this international break and was said to be limping as he exited. After fans and media alike have been waxing lyrical about how important Mane is to Liverpool and how fantastic he’s been this season, it was feared that he may miss extended time from the team.

Thankfully, Mane returned to Melwood and is fine. He’s ready to play this weekend against Leicester no problem, according to Liverpool Echo.

It wasn’t just people outside the club who felt consternation over Mane’s health, it prompted Jurgen Klopp to give his £30million man a phone call before he returned to ensure everything was alright.

The only game Mane missed this (young) season stands as Liverpool’s lone loss and easily their worst performance. The anemic attack was missing the pace and power that Mane brings whenever he steps on the field.

Daniel Sturridge was left stranded up top as Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho would regularly be needed to drop deep to find space to receive the ball. If Mane was on the pitch, he could’ve occupied defenders.

With how deep Burnley were sitting, there was no chance at getting in behind but the Senegalese international has proved he’s good enough to be successful without needing to be behind the defense all match, though that’s where he’s at his best.

Thankfully for Liverpool, though, is that he’s fit and will be available for selection against defending champions Leicester this weekend. It’d be a shock if Klopp were to leave him unselected.

It’ll be Liverpool’s first match at Anfield since the Main Stand has undergone a redevelopment.
