Liverpool tell Sakho to leave on loan; Defender rejects two clubs

Jurgen Klopp continues to push Mamadou Sakho towards the exit door , saying this is how he can save his Liverpool career.

How did we get here with Mamadou Sakho? It seems like the situation has gotten to the point of no return with Jurgen Klopp reportedly pushing the defender out the door, saying he’ll be frozen out if he doesn’t leave.

Here’s what the ever reputable James Pearce of Liverpool Echo reported on the matter.

“Jurgen Klopp has informed Sakho that he does have a future at Liverpool but he wants him to play regularly elsewhere over the coming months to prove both his fitness and his professionalism.”

Pearce has also reported that Liverpool have accepted loan offers from Stoke City and West Brom but Sakho rejected the moves.

For Sakho, it’d be fair if he’s skeptical on the ‘save his future by leaving on loan’ shtick. If he does acquiesce to leaving the club, it’d be odd to see it saving his career at Liverpool. Just ask Lazar Markovic how that worked for him last season.

It feels more reasonable that if Sakho stuck his feet in and worked to get back in Klopp’s good graces at Melwood everyday, something that Jordan Henderson decided years ago with Brendan Rodgers, he’d have a better chance at having a future at the club.

April was the last time Sakho pulled on a Liverpool kit. It was in a 4-0 rout of Everton and Sakho got on the scoresheet. He was a steady, integral piece of the team destined to go on and win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League against all odds.

Then came the erroneous failed drug test, the one that UEFA has essentially just said ‘oops’ on. From there, he got injured in preseason then was sent home from their American tour due to his professionalism/attitude.

    Poor Sakho.
