Lukaku ending his scoring drought, lifting Everton to a dominating 3-0 victory

Everton continued their excellent form this season with a commanding 3-0 win over struggling side Sunderland. They dominated most of the game in terms of chances and possession, and deserved all three points at the end of the day.

Sunderland’s Stadium of Light was electric as always, with the home fans hoping this was the game their team would turn their season around. Sunderland started off well, with a few opportunities falling to Defoe. Ultimately, they could not finish any chances.

22-year-old Jordan Pickford starred for Sunderland in the first half. He held Everton scoreless, including a wonderful save on a Lukaku header.

The second half was a much different story. Lukaku started the scoring in the 60th minute with a beautiful headed finish. New signing Idrissa Gueye delivered a wonderful ball to the back post for Lukaku to nod into the net.

The second saw more great set up play by the Everton midfield. Bolasie put in a perfect cross to the back post, where the big Belgian was waiting, nodding in his second of the night.

Rounding off the hat-trick, Mirallas played Lukaku in behind the defense, allowing him to calmly slot a cool and collected finish to the keeper’s right side. The 11 minute hat-trick ended his 13 game scoreless streak for his club Everton.

With this commanding win, Everton added three points to their season total, bringing them up to second place where they are tied with Chelsea. They are also just two points behind undefeated Manchester City.

Everton hosts newly promoted club Middlesbrough on September 17th, hoping to continue their fantastic form. Sunderland continues to struggle, and gets no break when they visit White Heart Lane on September 18th. The high offense Tottenham side looks to win back to back games to stay at the top of the table.
