Lyon will gamble on former Premier League striker Emmanuel Adebayor
Getting off to a slow start in Ligue 1 will apparently make clubs do crazy things. That’s the only logical reason that Lyon could be interested in signing one of the world’s most unreliable centre forwards. The French club are reportedly set to sign Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Mirror are reporting that Adebayor will fly to France today to complete a deal with Lyon. For the Togo international, it will represent a return to the French league where he began his professional career back in 2006.
The enigmatic forward was last employed by Crystal Palace for the latter part of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign. The Eagles let him walk away for free after only managing to score one goal in 15 appearances for the club.
Lyon must truly be desperate to believe that Adebayor is the answer to their prayers. He hasn’t had an effective spell of football since Tim Sherwood was his boss at Tottenham. It’s been quite some time since he celebrated by saluting the White Hart Lane faithful.
Even more concerning is the fact that Adebayor is at least 32-years-old. Lyon have more to worry about than just his emotional stability. They also need to worry about whether or not his body will hold up for an entire campaign. I wouldn’t be inclined to bet on Adebayor’s mental or physical ability at this point in his career.
Lyon fans shouldn’t expect Emmanuel Adebayor to save their season. They’ll be lucky if he makes it through an entire season with the club.
