Mamadou Sakho handed his last chance?

Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho was given a possible last-chance as he featured for the under 23’s side

Mamadou Sakho is in a bit of a mess right now. After being banned, missing games, and then being eventually cleared, he’s failed to get his career back on track.

Before the whole ‘fat burner’ situation he has formed a developing partnership alongside Dejan Lovren, and the pair looked strong. They began working well together. I think defensively the pair grew comfortable, which did help us win games last season.

Now Sakho couldn’t be further away from the first team. Being late for training, a team meal, and the departing plane saw him sent home early on the preseason tour. Once back, Sakho only continued to annoy Jurgen Klopp. Despite being placed for loan the French defender turned down offers in a bid to fight for his place.

The truth is, nobody really knows how bad Sakho was behind the scenes. Obviously I’m trusting the manager here, because Klopp’s the boss and what he says goes. It is refreshing to see a player who wants to play for the shirt and will try his best to earn his place – however.

It was said that Sakho wouldn’t feature again for the first team this season. Klopp claimed his loan would have been to regain fitness after so long on the sidelines, but most can see there’s more to this.

Turn of events?

After a Snapchat ‘rant’ about not being played despite being fit, Sakho seemed like a goner. Surprisingly, he was involved in the under 23’s match tonight against Wolfsburg. Here are some quotes form Liverpoolfc.com indicating how he performed in the eventual loss.

“The unfamiliarity between the two sides made for a cagey opening to the encounter and though the visitors enjoyed more possession, their path to goal was firmly blocked by Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho.”

“There was still time for drama, however, and Sakho was inches away from winning it with a header from a corner that bounced just wide, before Mayoral struck the post for the visitors at the other end.”

He seemingly did okay. They still lost the match and I didn’t catch the game, but from this match report it doesn’t present him as disappointing.

This situation is a confusing one. Sakho went from fan favourite to now hated troublemaker and nobody even knows what he actually did wrong. I trust Klopp if he feels the need to take action, but Sakho performed well last season and wants to fight for the shirt.

In the end Klopp will do whats right. I’m not going to turn on a Liverpool player until I know they needed to leave. If he’s getting games now, this could be his last chance to sort out whatever he’s been doing wrong. No player is bigger than the club, but jumping to conclusions isn’t helping anything. If Klopp gets rid, then I’ll support that.
