Manchester City Fans Time To Join The Leroy Sane Hype Train
Since Pep Guardiola arrived at Manchester City the atmosphere around the club has changed exponentially from long time fan favorites being shown the door to potential generational talents walking into the club. One of those such talents is the young German midfielder Leroy Sane and for the hipster Manchester City fan this is one player you are going to want to be able to say “I liked him before he was one of the stars of the club.”
This week has been a week that not only proved the faith that Guardiola has in Leroy Sane but the faith Sane has in his own ability. Making your debut in a Manchester Derby is something only ten other players have done in the Premier League, then in the Champions League opener his budding connection with Kelechi Iheanacho getting an assist on the Nigerian’s goal. Try not to drool as you think of a future Sane, Iheanacho and Sterling top three.
While this summer was filled with rumors of Sane leaving Schalke, the 20 year old had only appeared in 47 Bundesliga matches. Had Sane remained at Schalke he would have stared for the club and perhaps raised his value for the next transfer window. When Leroy Sane announced that he had signed with Man City one of the main reasons was an opportunity to learn at the feet of Pep.
For me this is one of the main reasons that I am buying a ton of stock in Leroy Sane. Regardless of club Pep Guardiola has always been like an Ivy League Professor taking what are arguably the best talents in the world and making them even better. Sane coming in and being open about his willingness to take in everything Pep is offering had me thinking of the emerging story of Pep’s relationship with Andres Iniesta.
In both their stories it is the faith that both player and manager had in each other that cemented their friendship. Pep knows who he believes fits his system and will move heaven and earth to get them in his “classroom” but if the player is unwilling to learn then he will be shipped out in an instant (like a certain giant Swede) but that isn’t Leroy Sane he has come to the Etihad ready to learn and become a superstar.
