Manchester City Injury Update: Kompany, Silva & Delph

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Just as skipper Vincent Kompany returns to the pitch for the EFL Cup victory over Swansea a new injury scare appears for the Manchester City man.

Here is an injury report update on the 3 Manchester City players that have current issues heading into the second match with Swansea in four days:

1 – David Silva

After getting a muscular injury from the Champions League bout, Silva has been rested the last few matches. If needed this weekend he should be fine to go; however given their depth (hey even Jesus Navas played this week!) Silva can easily sit another match. With the Champions League returning next week I’d expect Silva to be prepped for that match vs. another Swansea bout.

2 – Vincent Kompany

He finally made it back into action for City, his first start since May 4th. While this is sad news for the fan favorite, the good news is that it is at least not the return of his long term calf issue that has been holding him out. The club only confirmed that it is a new injury and that currently there is no time table for return. We should expect a full report and update from the club on his injury prior to the Celtic Champions League match next Wednesday.

3 – Fabian Delph

He picked up a small knock, a muscle injury, two matches ago. Pep hasn’t stated any further issues with the winger and he is expected to be back for selection possibly this week, but definitely after that. Unless Delph fails a late fitness test this should be the last time on this report.

4 – Nolito

Not injured, but will be serving a two-match ban after his red card. With David Silva healthy and Kelechi hitting great form, the City attack should not miss a step.

Some Positive News

Even as the injury report begins to get smaller, City welcome back their star man. After sitting for three FA-sanctioned matches Sergio Aguero will return for Man City this weekend. Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan both finally seem to be at full fitness and ready for inclusive in the side going forward.
