Manchester United demolish Leicester City at Old Trafford
Manchester United ran out rampant winners at Old Trafford against Leicester City, beating them 4-1, thanks to goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.
Club captain Wayne Rooney was dropped to the bench, as his teammates thrashed Leciester City at Old Trafford. Mourinho’s men ran riot in the first half with a scintillating display of attacking football.
They had four goals to show for their efforts as Leicester were no match to United’s slick and dominating display. Chris Smalling scored the first goal in the 22nd minute, when he headed home from Daley Blind’s corner.
The second goal was a thing of beauty. Some brilliant movement and one-touch passing ended with Jesse Lingard finding Juan Mata, who finished brilliantly to double United’s lead. It became 3-0 three minutes later.

Leicester City’s defence fell asleep as Daley Blind’s short corner found Mata, who turned provider for Marcus Rashford to tap in United’s third.
Two minutes later, from Manchester United’s next corner they made it 4-0. Paul Pogba headed home to score his first goal since his world record move to United. The Frenchman has been much maligned since the move and many fans of other clubs had been mocking him for his lack of production.
Leicester City pulled one back at the hour mark thanks to a wonder strike by winger Demarai Gray. The Red Devils remained in control throughout though, and cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win in the end.
They could have added to their lead. But Zlatan Ibahimovic was denied by Leicester goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Four goals were enough for Manchester United to get back to winning ways, and show their intent, after a week of talks of crisis at the club. Mourinho referred to his doubters as “Football Einsteins”, and their emphatic response on the pitch will surely have quietened them today.
Paul Pogba put in a man-of-the-match performance from midfield today. His dominating display capped off by his first goal since his summer transfer will give him a huge boost, with crucial games against Chelsea, and Liverpool coming up.
