Lucas Moura’s agent claims Manchester United want his client
Manchester United haven’t gotten as much production from their wide players as manager Jose Mourinho would have liked this season. That’s why the Portuguese boss is reportedly interested in bringing PSG winger Lucas Moura to Old Trafford.
This isn’t a report without a source either. Lucas’ own agent, Wagner Ribeiro, is the one alleging that Mourinho desperately wants to bring his client to the Premier League. I’m undecided as to whether or not that really adds any credibility to the story.
Still, we know that Mourinho was interested in signing Lucas at Real Madrid, so it’s certainly possible he wants to bring him to United. The arrival of the Brazilian wide man could also solve one of the club’s most pressing issues.
Currently, United aren’t getting very much production from their wide players. Anthony Martial has been good, but not great on the year. Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been below average at best. That could push United into the winter transfer market in hopes of adding some pace, and life to their attacking midfield.
From Lucas’ perspective, the move makes a lot of sense. His career at PSG seems to have plateaued so he is likely looking for a new challenge. Following his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford might be just the opportunity Lucas is looking for.
The other possibility is that Lucas wants a move away from PSG, and his agent is doing everything he can to drum up interest in the transfer market. There’s no better way to start a bidding war throughout Europe than claiming Manchester United have sincere interest in your client. Full credit to Ribeiro if he’s playing the media to his client’s advantage.
Expect Manchester United to be linked with quite a few wide men until their own wingers start to produce on the pitch. If that doesn’t start happening soon, they could be in for a big money purchase of Lucas Moura this January.
