Manchester United want Antoine Griezmann next summer
Rumors are already starting to swirl as to who the Premier League giants may be targeting next season, including Antoine Griezmann.
The transfer window just ended, but one report suggests Manchester United is already looking to bolster its attack. According to the Bleacher Report, the Red Devils will look to bring in Antoine Griezmann.
The report goes on to say that Jose Mourinho thinks the French forward can be a long-term replacement for United Captain Wayne Rooney. The Bleacher Report also suggests the deal could happen as early as next summer.
Griezmann has been a force in front of goal since joining Atletico Madrid in 2014. He has scored 44 La Liga goals with the club, and nine more in the Champions League. The 25-year-old would undoubtedly be a major attacking threat at Old Trafford, but a huge fee would be needed to bring him in. According to transfermarkt.com, his current market value is about €80 million.
United obviously aren’t short on cash, and wouldn’t be afraid to pay up for the Frenchman. However, it doesn’t make sense for the Red Devils to sign him next summer.
The Old Trafford club already improved its attack this summer by signing Zlatan Ibrahimović and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Paul Pogba was also brought in, and is a threat to score with his head and from distance.
While it is believed Ibrahimović will only be around this season, Mourinho admitted that he could see the striker playing with United for two years.
Plus, United has a crop of young talent who are proving to be worthy of donning the red shirt. Anthony Martial was terrific in his first season at Old Trafford, and Marcus Rashford has done nothing but shine since his debut in last year’s Europa League.
United will need to find a replacement for Rooney in the coming years, but they won’t need to splash the cash to get what they’re looking for.
