Matip can't wait to hear Liverpool fans sing "You'll Never Walk Alone"
Joel Matip can’t wait to hear, for the first time, the Liverpool faithful sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at Anfield.
It’s been a long time since Liverpool last played at Anfield. Well, it feels that way at least after four away fixtures without any at home this season.
Of course it’s by design as Anfield was getting a new makeover as the Main Stand was being expanded.
This weekend, Liverpool will be playing at Anfield again, finally. It’ll be the first time for the club’s summer signings, like Joel Matip. And Matip cannot wait to experience the atmosphere and listen to the crowd bellow “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to him and his teammates.

“I think Liverpool is famous for its stadium, for its atmosphere. It will be a great atmosphere and I’ll be happy when I can play there,” said Matip, via Liverpoolfc.com. “To hear ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ for the first time at the stadium will be a special moment and I will enjoy it.”
This’ll be his first time at Anfield, of course, but not the first time in general. It’ll sound more authentic and comprehensibly less German.
Matip’s old rivals at Schalke, Borussia Dortmund, sing it too.
“At Dortmund I liked You’ll Never Walk Alone,” he added. “You can compare them a little bit to Liverpool but it’s not the same,” said Matip. “Dortmund, sometimes they sing, but they’re not really famous for this, Liverpool is famous for this song and the atmosphere at the stadium. It will be something else. It’s a nice song and with the atmosphere, it will be good to hear.”
You’re right, Joel, it’s not the same. Now prepare to have your mind blown.
The aesthetics of Anfield will be an absolutely beautiful sight, one that’s been long overdue this season.
