Mats Hummels hounded by home fans after revealing Bayern desire

Borussia Dortmund fans weren't coy when it came to making their feelings about once beloved club captain Mats Hummels known. Boos and whistles rained down around Signal Iduna Park every time the center back touched the ball.

The home fans' acrimony stemmed from Hummels' comments earlier this week, in which the German revealed his desire to leave BVB. To make matters worse, he requested to leave Dortmund for their bitter rival, Bayern Munich.

So, yeah, BVB fans are ticked off. Hummels is a Munich native and started his professional career at Bayern, but made only two first-team appearances. The 27-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund in January 2008 and took on the captain's armband in 2014.

In addition to the jeers, fans also crafted a banner criticizing Hummels.

"The first to leave the ship is the captain, preferably immediately."

"You don't need to be a genius to expect that the fans would have expressed their disappointment," Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel said after his team's 5-1 win against Wolfsburg.

Hummels, meanwhile, shrugged off the haters.

"They were not the real fans - they were just a group of about 300 who never really loved me in the first place, and they just used this as a stage to vent their anger," Hummels said, according to sport1.de.

Not the real fans? That's probably not going to win you many brownie points, Mats.
