Memphis Depay has been told to curb his flamboyant lifestyle and concentrate on his game by Ryan Giggs, according to reports.

Depay’s performance was slated in Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat against Arsenal earlier this month when he was hauled off at half-time and replaced by Marouane Fellaini and theSunday People claim assistant manager Giggs has handed the Holland forward a dressing down over that display and his recent conduct.

The 21-year-old was a virtual spectator at The Emirates as Arsenal destroyed United with three goals in the first 20 minutes and Depay was given the hook after failing to track back and help a defense that was struggling to cope with the Gunners’ forward movement.

He was later believed to have gone out after the Emirates humiliation – a fact that did not go down well with Louis Van Gaal, and Giggs, who was schooled under Sir Alex Ferguson’s strict regime, has been the one told to try and rein Depay in.

Depay has shown flashes of brilliance since he arrived from PSV Eindhoven for £25million in the summer, but whereas fellow new recruit Anthony Martial has arrived and hit the ground running, Depay has struggled to consistently get to grips with the Premier League.

He has scored just once in eight Premier League games and the report claims Giggs has told Depay to keep a lower profile in public and focus on getting his performances on the pitch to the standard required at Old Trafford.

The Sunday People has quoted a United insider: “Memphis is photographed out and about more than other players and that’s not gone unnoticed.

“He’s been told to keep his head down a bit while his football catches up with the rest of his profile.”
