Mexico and Portugal paired up in Confederations Cup draw

The Confederations Cup draw did not have any major surprises. If the goal was to set up a relatively even playing field, it was a job well done.

Mexico and Portugal were paired together in Group A, along with New Zealand and hosts Russia. While Russia will have the crowd behind them, they've been poor in friendlies of late and figure to join the All Whites as teams to miss out on the knockout stages. Mexico and Portugal should finish in the top two and get into the semifinals.

In Group B, Germany and Chile are the obvious favorites. They're arguably the two best teams in the entire tournament. Australia are longshots to advance, while it probably won't matter who wins the Africa Cup of Nations in February to round out the group. Germany and Chile will likely be too strong for them.
