Neville still winless in La Liga after Valencia draws with Rayo

Valencia coach Gary Neville remained winless in the Spanish league after his team fought back to salvage a 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Both teams are without a victory in nine consecutive rounds, with Neville in charge of Valencia for the last six.

"We have to correct this immediately," Neville said. "It was a very disappointing performance. In football you have to win and enjoy yourself, and we didn't show any of that."

Rayo dominated the first half and went ahead through Jozabed Sanchez after 15 minutes.

With nerves fraying at Mestalla Stadium, Alvaro Negredo leveled against the flow of play with an audacious strike from near the halfway line in the 55th.

Rayo's Diego Llorente volleyed in a corner kick to seemingly end Valencia's rally in the 69th, only for Paco Alcacer to win a ball that fellow substitute Zakaria Bakali squared for him and scored with two minutes left.

Despite saving a point with his late goal, the Spain striker admitted his team was struggling to find its form under Neville.

"We can't continue like this," Alcacer said. "We have to flip the switch because this is impossible. Of course, when a new coach comes, you need three or four weeks to adapt but we can't use that as an excuse any longer."

Later, provisional leader Atletico Madrid visits Las Palmas, second-place Barcelona hosts Athletic Bilbao, Sporting Gijon goes to third-place Real Madrid and Espanyol plays at Getafe.
