Newcastle United send Jamie Sterry on loan

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Newcastle United have sent defender Jamie Sterry on loan to Coventry City for the season. It continues a great relationship between both clubs.

Last season, Newcastle United sent Adam Armstrong on loan to Coventry City, and he had great success with the club. Rafa Benitez will be hoping that Jamie Sterry will have an equal amount of success as a defender on loan with Coventry City.

Jamie Sterry certainly can not lay a claim to a starting position Benitez’s squad, but Sterry is a player with great potential. I feel that sending him to Coventry City is a safer bet than sending him anywhere else. We can be sure that Sterry will find adequate playing time at the club.

Sterry got his debut for Newcastle United last season in the Premier League. The player certainly has a future at Newcastle. But it will take some time before he is first team worthy

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray had this to say about the loan deal:

“He is only 20, but is a young talent with plenty of promise and will provide healthy competition in the wing-back position for us.”

Coventry City has been continually using Newcastle player to bolster their squad over the past couple of years. Hopefully, Jamie Sterry can do Newcastle United proud by performing extremely well in the Coventry uniform.
