Newcastle United Take Down Wolves

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Newcastle United lost to Wolverhampton 2-0 in their last matchup, but in amazing fashion, the club went on to defeat the Wolves in a League Cup match.

It just goes to show that Newcastle United isn’t going to let one measly little loss get to them. In their League Cup match against Wolverhampton, Newcastle came away victorious with a 2-0 win. Revenge, oh sweet revenge.

But is it revenge? Or is it just the way that football is? You win some, you lose some. The best teams are those who won’t let one loss get them down. That has been the culture of Newcastle over the past few years, however. One loss, and everything seems to have gone to hell.

But not Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle. It’s something that we have seen time and again with him. One or two losses mean nothing when there is a plethora more to play. All that matters is winning more than you lose.

But for now, let us celebrate Newcastle United’s victory over Wolverhampton, because the last time that the club defeated them in a league cup match, they went on to win the whole thing. But I wouldn’t put too much stock in that. Football has changed over the course of the last 60 years.

We can also not take the club’s victory over the Wolves and say it was wonderful. For the first half, possession was dominated by the magpies. But few came of their chances. It seems that the squad has been struggling to figure out what to do with the ball as soon as they have possession. In future matches, this will be a deterrent to success.

But overall, a victory coming after a disappointing loss is something that should be boosting all our spirits. Instead of saying that Wolverhampton took down a giant, we can sit back, relax, and realise that one loss isn’t going to ruin an entire season.
