Philadelphia Union extend Eastern summit lead with Crew win
Fabian Herbers' first MLS goal proved decisive as Philadelphia Union extended their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew.
Philadelphia fell behind after 14 minutes when Ola Kamara swept home Ethan Finlay's cross but goals either side of half-time from Chris Pontius and Vincent Nogueira turned the game in Union's favor.
Herbers then curled home an effort in the 84th minute for the hosts, who are now four points clear at the top of the standings, shortly after Conor Casey was sent off for Columbus. Cristian Martinez pulled a consolation back for the visitors in added time.
Late goals from Jordan Morris and Joevin Jones helped the Seattle Sounders pick up a valuable 2-0 victory at D.C. United.
Morris opened the scoring after 79 minutes and, just four minutes later, Jones sealed Seattle's fifth win of the season.
Liam Ridgewell scored the only goal as 10-man Portland Timbers secured a 1-0 win against San Jose Earthquakes.
The former Birmingham and West Brom defender headed home Diego Valeri's 14th-minute free-kick as Portland, who had Dairon Asprilla sent off just before the break, held on for the points.
