Predicting Tottenham's Deadline Day

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Tottenham will enjoy a relatively quiet Deadline Day

Tottenham fans are going to head into Deadline Day with giant expectations. Unfortunately, it’s going to be a pretty quiet day at White Hart Lane. Spurs won’t be nearly as busy as fans hope.

Incomings

Tottenham fans want to see at minimum of three incoming players announced tomorrow. The sad truth is, I only see Spurs signing two senior players today.

The most obvious incoming player is Georges-Kevin N’Koudou. I’m not exactly going out on a limb with this prediction. The French attacker has been training with Spurs for the better part of a week. He even posted a picture on his Instagram account declaring “To Dare is To Do.” He’ll be an official Spurs player by the time business is complete tomorrow.

The other player I expect to see confirmed tomorrow is Espanyol keeper Pau Lopez. He isn’t the exciting number ten that Spurs fans crave, but he should be solid business. He has the potential to take over for Hugo Lloris as the club’s top goal keeper after a few years of seasoning. Expect him to be announced as a loan move with an option to purchase at a relatively modest fee.

Outgoings

Most Spurs fans know that the club have already shed most of their deadwood. Fringe players like Ryan Mason, Nacer Chadli and DeAndre Yedlin are already gone. That doesn’t leave a ton of additional room for Tottenham to sell more players.

The one player of consequence who might still be sold is midfielder Tom Carroll. It’s clear he’s fallen well down Pochettino’s pecking order in either the attacking or defensive midfield. It’s best for everyone involved if he gets a move to a less competitive Premier League club. He isn’t a lock to leave, but I’d bet on him getting his walking papers today.

    Conclusion

There could be a surprise in store today from Daniel Levy, but that really hasn’t happened since the days of Van Der Vaart. Don’t count on Levy pulling a rabbit out of the hat for Tottenham tomorrow.
