Radamel Falcao has been scoring goals for weeks, so of course he got hurt

Radamel Falcao just can't catch a break. After three horrific years, the Colombian seemed to have found his footing in the preseason as he bagged goal after goal. He then carried that over to Champions League qualifying, where he scored a goal and set up another to put Monaco in front of Fenerbahce, but just when he found his groove, he went down injured. Now Monaco have confirmed that the striker will miss several weeks with a thigh injury.

"Radamel Falcao suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh in the last match which will require treatment, rest and rehabilitation over several weeks,'' the club said.

Falcao was one of the best strikers in the world before suffering a terrible knee injury in 2013 and spent the last two seasons on loan at Manchester United and Chelsea, where he struggled mightily and rarely saw the field. It looked like he might not ever get back to being a top player again.

This preseason seemed to be a change in fortune for the 30-year-old. He looked quick and healthy, a far cry from where he had been. The only question was whether he could carry that form into real matches and he did early on against Fenerbahce, but then his thigh caused him problems and now he's back to the bench.

It's unlikely that Falcao ever reaches the heights of 2009-13, when he scored at least 30 goals in each season for Porto and Atletico Madrid. But it would be good to see him have a nice finish to his career with him being a contributing player in a good league. It looked like he might be able to do that in the early going this season and now an injury has derailed that. Hopefully it just proves to be a blip and he can recover to get his career back on track.
