Real Salt Lake vs FC Dallas: Three Key Moments
A scoreless draw between two Western Conference playoff contenders in Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas left both teams with a point apiece.
FC Dallas traveled to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake in a match that was sure to provide fireworks. In reality, this one ended as the only scoreless draw so far this week in Major League Soccer. Even though both of these teams are playoff contenders, neither could find a game winner in this one.
Dallas has already secured their playoff spot in the Western Conference but they are still battling for the Supporters’ Shield. Their magic number for the Supporters’ Shield is now 11 points. Real Salt Lake are fighting to stay in the thick of things in the West as they hope to make the postseason after missing out last season.
Real Salt Lake are now 12W-10L-9D on the season with 45 total points. FC Dallas have 53 points on the year with a 15W-8L-8D record. RSL are in fourth place in the West while FCD still hold the top spot.

1. POST! From FC Dallas Early
FC Dallas midfielder, Mauro Diaz, had his shot from distance ricochet off of the post in the 8′ minute. It was a great strike from outside of the box and he was unlucky to score on the attempt. The miss kept things level but nearly gave Dallas the lead early.
2. Recovery Run For the Win
Dallas center back, Walker Zimmerman, made an incredible recovery run late in the first half to keep the match scoreless. A great pass from Luke Mulholland led to a breakaway for Olmes Garcia. He wasn’t able to get a shot on goal because Zimmerman made a clean tackle inside the box as he got all ball in a dangerous position in the 45′ minute.
3. Yellow Cards?
In all honesty, this match was pretty bland for two high scoring teams. There were a few chances but neither side could find a breakthrough. There were however three yellow cards handed out in this one. One to Luke Mulholland in the 39′ minute for unsporting behavior, one to Kellyn Acosta in the 85′ minute for unsporting behavior, and one to Chris Seitz for time wasting in the 90’+1′ minute.
